A few catalysts led to this episode.

A sold-out Snarky Puppy concert with an opening set by Banda Magda (backed by Snarky Puppy)  at The Earl in Atlanta, USA.  The energy was So High!  One nation under a groove.  I left feeling some sort of responsibility to share what I had heard with as many people as possible.

An email from a listener in Miami (by way of Brazil) saying it would be nice to have a new episode with some Brazilian rhythms in it.

A request from my daughter to play some music with "that triangle and whistle (apito) in it".

A phone call from a friend while the above requested music was playing.  (Friend) What's that playing? (Me) Some music Baby Girl requested.  (Friend) Hey Man, I need to have that.  You should put that on the podcast.  You haven't put a new episode up in months.

And So...Ritmos Brasileiros (mostly).  Brazilian inspired rhythms from around the world.  Uptempo and lots of great energy for the first hour, next a bit laid-back, then a final take-off and soaring high for the closing.  Not all new (some niceness as far back as early 70's), but hopefully new to you or a welcome visit from old treasures.  Much Love to the Beautiful People of Brazil.  Your musical gifts to the world are beyond measure!  I will visit your land one day soon.

Playlist provided in hopes that you will find these artists, buy their music, see them in concert, "like" them on facebook, follow them on twitter, tell your friends about them and share a link to this page.  For any fellow selectors who heard it hear first, How 'bout a shout-out for Modern Nu Jazz Rhythms..we'd appreciate the Love!

Now I'm excited by the possibility that you will connect with these sounds that way I do.

Here We Go!

  1. Club des Belugas - Close Your Eyes
    • Close your eyes and open your listening heart.
  2. Melody Gardot - Mira
    • Melody's is such a compelling story of a human experience.  You should find out more about her and immerse yourself in her work.
    • Official music video
  3. Bob Dusi & Banda Charanga - Magia
    • Released in 2007, "Magia" has been in heavy rotation for about a month.  I don't know the lyrics, but apparently "magia" means incantation or spell.  Fitting.
  4. Marcos Valle - Nao Tem Nada Nao
    • What if all music were this Great?
  5. Bebel Gilberto - Sem Contencao
    • What great memories from the Summer after this was released!
  6. Rosalia de Souza - Onde Anda O Meu Amore (Fedreghini & Bianchi Remix)
    • The voice...the horns!
  7. Zuco 103 - Mayfly
  8. Brazilian Love Affair Project - les Mysteres de Rio

  14. Quiet Nights Orchestra - Chapter One
    • I Love This Group!  I'm paraphrasing, but Miles said if it's good, the music will live with you the next day, and for days to come.  The melodies, horn riffs, drum licks, Sofie's voice, arrangements, harmonies, and lyrics from QNO will color your Life forever in a most beautiful way.
  15. Charlie Steinmann Orchestra - It is Such a Good Night
    • Gotta give props to the music supervisor the hit tv show Breaking Bad, Thomas Golubic.  I heard this gem in an episode and HAD to find it.
